Staff Bios
Lane Venden has over 20 years experience as a professional luthier. He was accredited through the luthier program at Red Wing, Minnesota in 1987, then moved to Madison, Wisconsin immediately after to begin his career in lutherie. In 2002 Lane began his entreprenurial adventure by opening his own business inside Madison Music, a premier guitar store. Five years later he took the next step and expanded his shop by moving into a bigger space. He's an accomplished musician, and has played in numerous bands in the Madison area.
Jeff Schirmer - Jeff hails from Minneapolis, Minnesota. He attended the luthier program at Red Wing, Minnesota, graduating in May of 2006. Jeff began his luthier career at Lane's Lutherie in October of the same year after moving to the Madison area. He specializes in stringed instrument repair and guitar building, and brings a passion for fine woodworking to his craft. He is also a talented finger-style guitar player.
Paul Martens, a native of Indiana, started his musical career as a guitar player. After several years as a photojournalist, he studied violinmaking and instrument repair under Tom Sparks at the Indiana University School of Music. During his time there he was fortunate to have had the opportunity to directly study instruments built by such venerable makers as Antonio Stradivari, Nicolo Amati, and J.B. Vuillaume.
